The Big Adventure, Arts Theatre, Saturday 13th May 2006

MARK Whiteley and Dan Hoffman-Gill had just trudged 15 miles from Derby, part of a trek from Bangor to Boston, when they strode on to the stage for this highly-original two-hander.

But, given the quality of the show, you'd never have known it - they were excellent.
It wasn't a play as such, more an engaging mix of ad-libbing banter and badinage, character sketches, rambling story-telling and deft mime. And some of it was touching and moving, as well as being very funny.

A highlight was when, all rictus grins and staring manfully into the distance, they pretended to be modelling a Millets catalogue. Another was Whiteley's wickedly accurate parody of the survival expert: Whatever the problem, "Rule Three - dig a trench".

Last year's Thick as Thieves was good, this was better, with more depth and inventiveness.

I found this

Blisters on blisters.

Last nights trip to the theatre was a real laugh,Well the show was, the drinks before was another matter as Mrs B got harrased by some big strapping bloke trying to push to the bar ahead of her,She soon sorted him out,We bumped into Big Paul & his Mrs in Lloyds (We would have had a chat if we could have heared anything over the din of some shite tunes) before going into the Arts for the Big Adventure the show was great with a load of laughs and some sharp intakes of breath as each of the performers took the stage to deliver their stories,Some made you think,Some made you smile,And some scenes cracked up a woman in front of us so much that everyone was waiting for the illusion of a large bee to pop up again just to hear her rather odd laugh again.

Both Dan & Mark played a blinder and after 13 days of walking & performing every night kept us all entertained to the end of the show & beyond by coming off stage to mingle (Well scrounge as much as they could) with the crowd,A good show all in another great performance from the Hard Graft Theatre Company,Mind you we got to go home after the show while those poor fuckers had to hoof it a few miles to find a bed,Then off on their feet again in the morning,Barmy i reckon!I came away with the knowledge that to survive ya gotta dig a ditch,So i dug one in my neighbours garden this morning!

Anyroad a good night out for me n Mrs B though cut short due to me having to be up at 5am for another stint at the factory..The Rat Pack will be our next visit to the theatre in June so not much culture till then.

Right i'm off for a couple of puffs!

Later.
